Children and youth events in May

May is a special month for children and youth at St. Paul’s.

May 6 is a Family Sunday, when our 10:00am service is geared especially toward young people, with a children’s homily and a performance by our Children’s Choir. An 8:00am quiet Eucharist is available for those who prefer a more traditional service.

May 13 is Youth Sunday, when our high school and middle school youth perform all aspects of the regular worship service, from reading and ushering to preaching and serving on the altar.

May 20 is the final day of Sunday School for the year.

May 27 is Pentecost. After the service, everyone — especially children and families — are invited to fly kites at the Davis School fields.

Elementary Sunday School Parent Meeting

On Sunday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m. Cathy Presti and Rev. Chris Wendell will be hosting a elementary-aged parents meeting in the library. The goal of the meeting is to gathering information from you about how this year’s Sunday school program went — to get feedback on the parts of the program working well, and to brainstorm together ideas for next year’s program. This is a very important meeting, and so we’d like to ask that each family try and have one parent attend, if at all possible. We will work hard to finish the meeting by 12:30 p.m. and to use the time well. Our Sunday school ministry is one of our most vibrant and important ministries! Thank you for helping us engage in this meaningful program reflection and planning for next year!

Special Catechesis Training Opportunity, Sunday April 22

We are pleased to announce that on April 22 from 2:30 to 5pm, St. Paul’s will be offering a special training for people who may want to be teachers or assistants in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program. Unlike the regular trainings, which take place over several full-day Saturdays, we’ve been blessed to engage the help of long-time Catechesis teacher from a nearby parish to come and offer a short version of the training. This session will cover things like: how to work with the curriculum, how to use the manipulatives, how to encourage wondering among the children, how to structure your Catechesis time. Even if you have no intention of becoming a teacher/volunteer, this is a great opportunity to see what your children do each Sunday in the classroom! Please contact Amanda Hubbard if you’d like to come (hubbard@psfc.mit.edu or 781-275-7857). THIS TRAINING IS A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY, and we probably won’t be able to offer it again for another couple years, so now is the time to sign up if you can and learn more about this wonderful Christian formation program!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at St. Paul’s!

St. Paul’s will host a Pot Roast Dinner on Saturday, March 17, at 7:00pm. This adults-only fundraiser will feature delicious food and drink, and great musical entertainment. Tickets are $30 per person, available in advance during coffee hour or at the door. Get your Irish on and celebrate with St. Paul’s!

Shop for the Bedford Food Pantry during Lent!

The Outreach Committee’s Mission of the Month for March is “Feeding the Hungry.” As we did last year, we’ll be collecting nonperishable food items throughout Lent for the Bedford Food Pantry. Of special concern this year are the families in transitional housing in Bedford, who need healthy meals that can be prepared in a microwave, since they don’t have access to stovetops or ovens.

Grocery lists and bags will be distributed at church on Sundays during Lent. The grocery list is also available for downlaod here: Food Pantry grocery list 2012

In the mood for TRIVIA?

Have you ever played Trivial Pursuit or attended a Trivia Night at a pub or school event? Do you know a lot of seemingly worthless information in sports and recreation, popular culture, literature, history, or science and nature? Do you yell at the TV when JEOPARDY! is on when you know an answer before a contestant? Do you enjoy good-natured collegial competition? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, consider joining the Fundraising Committee and help to plan a Trivia Night fundraiser.

The Fundraising Committee is looking for ideas and volunteers to plan and execute fundraising events. We have a great time in the process, so why not join in on the fun and help to raise money for St. Paul’s? We are open to suggestions for all types of events. Stay tuned for your chance to submit suggestions on Survey Monkey to let us know what you think might be fun and profitable.

Coming up in February: Boy Scout Sunday, Souper Bowl soup sale, and more

The first full week of February promises a host of events at St. Paul’s.

Sunday, February 5: Boy Scout Sunday and our annual Souper Bowl soup sale
This Sunday’s service will celebrate the work of the Boy Scouts and recognize the Scouts within our parish.

After church, head to coffee hour to stock up on delicious homemade soups to help keep you warm during the Super Bowl that night. $6/quart, with all proceeds benefiting St. Paul’s. (We can’t promise that buying soup will ensure a Patriots victory, but we guarantee Myra Kraft is watching . . . )

Monday, February 6: Women’s Group Movie
The Women’s Group will be watching Sarah’s Key at Lynne Wolf’s home. All women of the parish are invited to attend.

Thursday, February 9: Community Table
St. Paul’s will provide dinner for Bedford’s Community Table once again, featuring dessert made by the Middle School Youth as part of Youth in Service month. For more information, or to help with cooking and serving, please contact Sharon Healey.

Karaoke Night is ON! 1/21/12, 7:30pm

The snow is on its way out, the DPW is hard at work plowing the streets, and our parking lot will be clear by showtime.

Doors open at 7:00, and the singing begins at 7:30. We know many of you have been reviewing your favorite songs and are rarin’ to go. We’ll have song auctions, a silent auction, raffle prizes, food and beverages, and TONS of fun.

Hockey game January 28

The Men’s Group is sponsoring our annual trip to a Harvard hockey game. This year we’ll be seeing Harvard take on Brown, on Saturday, January 28. Tickets are $15. All men, women, and children of the parish are invited to attend.
